i wait for you
mixed media on water colour paper
7"x5"
(ink, image transfer, handmade paper)
Remember this photograph? It's one of my favourites. I find it so evocative, sad, nostalgic, hopeful, romantic..... I had to use it in art somehow and I'm over the moon to have figured out image transfers. hint: the right polymer made all the difference. I LOVE combining photography with other media.
...but whatever came, she had resolved never again to belong to another than herself.
Kate Chopin, The Awakening
I'm still terrible at photographing art - just can't get the nuances to show. edit: I worked out scanning works better than photographing it! Hopefully it's enough.
Enough for what? Glad you asked. I plan on offering my art (SCARY) for sale (etsy I guess?) and this is the sort of thing I'll put out there.
You just gotta let go of doubts and all the crazy hang-ups we dump on ourselves and just take the plunge sometimes, right?

I love it. but I know what you mean. it's scary to share very personal things. the doubts are killing me, too!
ReplyDeleteoh! i certainly think you should do that! your art is... ART ! believe it and just do it : )
ReplyDeleteThat is wonderful--your latest art piece of art and that you will be selling them!!! So excited for you!!!

I'm so excited you've decided to sell your art!!! I do really like Etsy. It's very easy to use, and one of the best, imo, online venues for international buyers and sellers. (I've noticed that some sites based out of Europe are very difficult to buy from in the States.) Will you be selling your original art or prints? While I don't create anything beautiful like your works, creating has always been personal. I've always wondered how artists handle letting an original work of art go.
ReplyDeleteI love this piece. And the quote. "I am mine" has become my motto.
this is wonderful monica. although i have only seen snippets of your art to date, i would love to be able to have some in my own home. every piece you create is so beautiful and meaningful. i love that.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful work of art, Monica! I also love Kate Chopin's line that you have quoted.
ReplyDeleteyour art has such value. yes, let go of those fears.
ReplyDelete...but whatever came, she had resolved never again to belong to another than herself. yes, yes and yes!!! yes!

ReplyDeletelove your motto Amanda
ReplyDeletethanks for the kind words everyone. :)
how fun! I love the quotes - and the artwork. Good luck on trying to sale your art! It takes a lot to put yourself out there, so kudos to you for doing it!
ReplyDeleteThis is a fantastic piece! Did you also make a video showing your process on this piece? I know what you mean about photographing art, I never seem to get it right. It is so cool that you are putting your art out there for sell, maybe one day I will do the same but right now , just posting it on my blog and facebook is a big step. If you have time come by and check it out.

Love this, and love your blog! How beautiful! I love blogs that focus on celebrating joy, learning, and wonder, which yours seems to do beautifully.
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting mine! Our trip to Italy was wonderful, even with the three little guys (two of my own, and my sister's as well).
yes! do it! it took a year for me to put anything for sale on Etsy after opening my shop haha i love it though!
ReplyDeleteOh...about the jumpers...
So when you walk into a shop there's about 6 steps where you are in a kind of 'no man's land' where you havent really realised that you are inside...you're sorting out your handbag...adjusting to the temperature etc..so. They put something in your way to make you stop and think for a minute. Those tables with the products stacked high make you break step...look around and notice things!! haha!!
I think you have something here that you can 'smile' about because it is lovely, good luck with the etsy.

What exciting news! Your work is quite beautiful, so worry not!
ReplyDeletethis is beautiful - the kind of piece you can comfortably gaze at for hours, never arriving at the end.
ReplyDeleteno video Talibah, my art making is too erratic i think. lol
ReplyDeletethanks everyone! it means a lot.
This piece is gorgeous! And congrats on making the decision to start selling your art. That's really exciting!
ReplyDeleteIt's beautiful!! And do I see some pink in there?? Don't be scared of selling your work, it's gorgeous. And there's love that goes into it that people will want to have a part of.
ReplyDeletePhotographing art is definitely a special skill. Had some classmates do it for 3D art students, and was glad I didn't have to do it, lol.
ReplyDeleteAnyway...I thought you had already looking into selling? Either way, that's fantastic! I wonder if I'll ever get to that point...aside for doing portrait sessions, that is.
it's beautiful Mon. good luck with the shop..although i don't think you'll need it, your art speaks for itself.
